Mag-Alternator Fitting Instructions.
Additional
Mag/Alternator instructions 1. The Alternator is geared to run at engine speed, so turning the magneto spindle to put the arrow and spindle indent to the top, is difficult. By taking the f/wheel cover off, this enables you to turn the magneto easily because of the 2:1 gearing. 2. It is important to make sure the pinion is a good lapped fit on the shaft because of the initial movement of the magneto on starting. When it is moving the load is reduced. If you find you can’t achieve a good 80/90% fit we suggest you use a small amount of bearing fit Loctite on assembly. 3. The 12v alternator is far better than the original 45w or 60w Lucas dynamo. However, we do not advise using 60w halogen bulbs etc as you may have problems balancing the charging side of the unit. I use a 12v low wattage 40/45w halogen headlight bulb which works fine. 5. Please fit the alternator and timing cover before starting the engine for safety reasons. 6. NOTE: We would advise that after you have inserted the timing peg you need to re-fit the alternator cover before fitting the unit onto the engine, as the cover can be a close fit to the inner primary chain case on some machines. |
