Some Observations from Roger Moss regarding His Scott
Roger Moss of Moss Engineering, builder of the
Scott raced by Paul Dobbs in 2004 and 2005 had this to say about our magnetos.
The mag on a Scott runs at engine speed, so must
function efficiently up to the equivalent of 12,000 rpm on a four stroke.
Despite the very best attention to traditional BTH
mags, they would not maintain timing accuracy into these higher revs and
operational life was short. I designed and built my own electronic
magneto using PVL components, but these obliged me to run at twice engine
speed. Although this system was reliable, some loss of timing accuracy
was sacrificed. I was pleased to obtain one of Tony's first BT-H mags
for trials on my Scott. This magneto has proved 100% reliable, accurate
and effective. I recommend without any reservation. Without
this mag, Paul Dobbs could not have demonstrated the true potential of a good
Scott in so dramatic a fashion as he did in 2005.
